Counselor - Temporary

Austin Recovery provides compassionate and effective drug and alcohol treatment since 1967. We are currently seeking a Temporary Counselor for our Hicks Family Ranch facility in Buda, TX.

All Austin Recovery properties are 100% tobacco free environments.

As of December 1, 2011, Austin Recovery will no longer hire individuals who use nicotine products. Applicants who profess to use nicotine will not have their applications processed. Anyone who is offered and accepts a position with Austin Recovery will be tested for nicotine during our regular post-offer pre-employment testing. Applicants who test positive for nicotine will be eliminated from consideration and pending job offers will be rescinded.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs orientation function by describing to clients the general nature and goals of the program and the program’s specific rules, parameters, costs, and client rights.
  • Performs charting function; creating, printing and filing all necessary documentations to include but not limited to service begin/end, assessment, treatment plans, reviews discharging (discharge assessment, plan and summary) and progress notes (individual, group, educational and administrative)
  • Performs assessment function by identifying clients’ strengths, weaknesses, problems, and needs for the development of treatment plans.
  • Performs treatment planning function by identifying and ranking clients’ problems, establishing agreed upon immediate and long term goals, and deciding on treatment methods and resources to be utilized.
  • Performs counseling function by utilizing special skills to assist clients in achieving objectives through evaluation of problems and their ramifications, examination of attitudes and feelings, consideration of alternative solutions, and decision making.
  • Performs case management function by initiating activities which bring people, services, agencies, and other resources together within a planned framework of action working toward the achievement of established goals.
  • Performs crisis intervention function by responding to clients’ needs during acute emotional and/or physical distress.
  • Performs client education function by providing information to clients concerning alcohol and drug abuse, recovery, and available services and resources.
  • Performs referral function by identifying the needs of clients which cannot be met by the counselor or agency and helping clients use available support systems and community resources.
  • Performs consultation function by working with other counselors and professionals in regard to client treatment services to assure comprehensive, quality care to clients.
  • Maintains liaison with referring agencies.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Performs other related assignments as directed by the Director of Clinical Services

Qualifications:

  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish effective rapport with clients
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on call
  • Must be Red Cross CPR/First Aid certified upon hire or within 30 days of hire.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a clinically related field with a valid Master’s level clinical license required.
  • Current LMFT, or LMFT-A preferred.
  • Three years of experience working in the chemical dependent treatment field

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Communicates orally with management, co-workers and the public in face-to face, one-to-one, and group settings.
  • Regularly uses a telephone for communication.
  • Uses office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, and Fax machines.
  • Sits for extended time periods.
  • Hearing and vision within normal ranges.
  • Uses hands to finger, handle and feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.
